It is my honor to be elected as President of The Hong Kong Institute of Housing 2010/2011 and have the precious opportunity to work with an energetic and experienced General Council. Together with the General Council 2010/2011, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Presidents and General Councils who devoted themselves in leading and developing the Institute in the past 22 years.

In 22 years, the Institute has been recognized as one of the leading professional organizations in the industry. The industry is now approaching another milestone in its development. The Government has proposed to establish a Mandatory Licensing System for local housing management practitioners in three-yearˇ¦s time. To ensure this Licensing System can well serve the public and have the industry be further developed healthily, we will take an active role in assisting the government to establish the quality standards and achievable requirements for professional housing managers and housing management practitioners.

To serve the public through promoting and assisting the private property owners in quality housing management is one of our missions. We have put this mission into practice by participating enthusiastically the Building Management Professional Service Scheme which will run through to 2011. Under this Scheme, we will support owners of aged private buildings to review and move forward on the management and maintenance of their own buildings as well as the living environment.

Property management is a crucial but new industry in Mainland China. After the signing of the Supplement VI of CEPA in 2009, our Institute has been working with our Mainland partners on the mutual recognition of the professional qualifications. To line up a system which is beneficial to both sides, I am sure that you would support us in the communication process with patience. We will keep you informed once there is any remarkable progress of this issue.
