Hong Kong Institute of Housing offers the following classes of membership, namely Fellows, Members, Associates, Affiliates, Registered Students, Honorary Fellows and Retired Members.

No person shall be admitted to any class of membership of the Institute unless he satisfies the General Council that he is a fit and proper person to be so admitted having regard to all circumstances including his general education, the nature of his employment, the responsibility of the office which he holds and his character.


Fellows:
As a Fellow of the Institute, the individual has been a Member of the Institute for a continuous period of not less than seven years and he has, in the opinion of the General Council, rendered special service to the Institute. A Fellow may use the abbreviated title "F.H.K.I.H." to denote his membership. (Details please refer to the HKIH"s By-Laws Clause 9)

Members:
As a Member of the Institute, the individual holds a qualification recognised by the HKIH, including the completion of the Practical Experience Requirement and has been employed by a Housing Body, whether continuous or not, amounting in the aggregate to not less than five years. A Member may use the abbreviated title "M.H.K.I.H" to denote his membership. (Details please refer to the HKIH"s By-Laws Clause 11)

Associates:
As an Associate of the Institute, the individual has been a member of a professional institution with voting right at general meetings, the membership of which is recognised by the HKIH with a minimum of five years' post qualification experience in connection with the profession. (Details please refer to the HKIH"s By-Laws Clause 13)

Affiliates:
As an Affiliate of the Institute, the individual holds a qualification recognised by the HKIH and has been employed by a Housing Body, whether continuous or not, amounting in the aggregate to not less than two years. (Details please refer to the HKIH"s By-Laws Clause 14.2)

Probationers:
As a Probationer, the individual holds educational attainments as required by the General Council from time to time and attains professional training. Also, the individual shall not remain as a Probationer for seven years following the date of his election and is not eligible for election of a member so long as he maintains the status quo. (Details please refer to the HKIH"s By-Laws Clause 15.2)

Registered Students:
As a Registered Student of the Institute, the individual is currently undertaking or is eligible to undertake a housing related course recognised by the HKIH. (Details please refer to the HKIH"s By-Laws Clause 17)

Honorary Fellows:
As an Honorary Fellow of the Institute, he has, in the opinion of the General Council, rendered special service to the Institute. An Honorary Fellow may use the abbreviated title "Hon.F.H.K.I.H." to denote his honorary fellowship. Fellows (Details please refer to the HKIH"s By-Laws Clause 19 & 20)

Retired Members:
As a Retired Member of the Institute, he has been either a Fellow or Member of the Institute immediately prior to such admission/transfer, and he has ceased practice in the Housing field/service. A Retired Member may use the abbreviated titles "F.H.K.I.H.(Retired)" in the case of a former Fellow or "M.H.K.I.H.(Retired)" in the case of a former Member to denote his membership. A Corporate Member may use the following abbreviated titles and no other to denote his/her membership:

Fellow - F.H.K.I.H.

Member - M.H.K.I.H.

Honorary Fellow - Hon. F.H.K.I.H.


A Retired Corporate Member may use the following abbreviated titles and no other to demote his/her membership:

Retired Fellow - F.H.K.I.H. (Retired)

Retired Member - M.H.K.I.H. (Retired)
