| Donation to help victims and support disaster relief work in quake-hit regions in Mainland |
| |
Dear Council Members, |
| |
Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for your prompt responses to my respective appeals in connection with the captioned subject on 14 and 15 inst. With the support from the majority of the council members, I am pleased to inform you that, up to present, a sum of HK$10,000 has already been donated by some of our ardent council members in addition to the Institute's subscription of HK$10,000 which in effect acts as a catalyst to boost donations. |
| |
For your information, our quick response and action on calling for donations to aid rescue efforts and the needy victims of the massive earthquake in Sichuan have greatly inspired¤¤Áp¿ì, an high ranking official of which will receive the cheque/s concerned in a high-profiled ceremony next Friday on 23.5.2008, applauding the Institute for having wholeheartedly shown, as a professional body, our social and national responsibilities. |
| |
As the disaster pulls everyone's heartstrings, we have to, according to Premier Wen Jiabao, compete with time to save lives. I again appeal to all our council members and members of the Institute, in particular for your genuine support without delay. Please keep the Secretariat/all of us informed of your sum of donations via e-mail as soon as possible. The HKIH will collect the donations and donate in the name of the Institute with all individual members. Separate receipts will be issued to the Institute and the individuals for the purpose of claiming tax relief. |
| |
"Blood is thicker than water". It's now time for us in Hong Kong to assist our fellow mainlanders to show we are a family. I sincerely look forward to receiving your positive replies at your earliest convenience. |
| |
Warm regards, Henry Chan President |

"Excellent Management Practices in New Property Development" Seminar Series |

"Excellent Management Practices in New Property Development" Seminar Series |
| |
| PSDAS (2005-1-4) |
| |
Funded by the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB) of the Government of the HKSAR under the Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme (PSDAS), "Excellent Management Practices in New Property Development" is a project run by The Hong Kong Institute of Housing with the aim to promulgate best practices and knowledge to improve the quality of property management in newly developed properties. Comprising 6 half-day local seminars and a 2-day seminar held in Shenzhen, specialists in their fields of knowledge had been invited to deliver on a wide range of topics and issues. |
| |
The entire seminar series which kicked off in November 2005 saw over 450 enthusiastic participants in attendance at the seminars. By providing and facilitating an abundance of opportunities for information sharing, and an exceptionally valuable mix of perspectives on a host of issues through numerous presentations by academics and professionals alike, the project was certainly a rousing success. |
| |
The Institute is particularly grateful for the generous assistance and continued support from the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau and our guest speakers who had enriched the quality and coverage of discussions by sharing their own experiences and expert insight and perspectives. |
| |
Capturing the essence of the seminar series, we are delighted to present to you our CD ROM from the seminar series which contains presentation slides, photos and other useful materials from the project's seminars. |
| |
Taking this opportunity, the General Council wishes to thank all participants for their enthusiasm and contributions in making the Seminar Series a success and certainly look forward to your continued support in the future. |

| HKIH and CIHAPB join forces in promoting environmental conservation |
| |
20 September 2006
| |
| HKIH and CIHAPB join forces in promoting environmental conservation |
| |
As partner organisations for almost two decades, the Hong Kong Institute of Housing and Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch have persistently worked towards the common goal of promoting the science and art of housing, the training and education of those engaged in the profession of housing practice and ensuring a healthy development of the housing management sector. Throughout each year, the Institutes join hands in organising an array of training opportunities such as legal forums, seminars and educational visits to help members develop their knowledge and skills. |
| |
With a combined membership of almost 5,000 housing professionals, we are aware that many members are members of both HKIH and CIHAPB. As one of the facets of the tow Institutes' joint environmental conservation initiatives, we are writing to seek the consent of those members with dual membership to receive a single mailing of joint circulars instead of receiving separate and identical circulars from both Institutes with the aim of eliminating waste and conserving resources. |
| |
We attach herewith an Authorization Letter granting us permission to create a combined mailing list for those members with dual membership. In future, only one circular letter will be sent to those members on the combined mailing list. Kindly complete and return the authorisation letter by post to: HKIH & CIHAPB, Units 2709-11, Shui On Centre, 6-8 Harbout Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong. |
| |
We look forward to receiving your response. |
| |
If no authorisation letter is returned, we will presume that you elect to receive separate circulars from both Institutes. |

| HKIH Introduces Manadatory CPD |
| |
31 December 2005
Dear Members, |
| |
| HKIH Introduces Manadatory CPD |
| |
Continuing Professional Development is the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of relevant knowledge and skills to enable professionals to successfully carry out their duties and responsibilities throughout their professional lives. |
| |
The Institute's Continuing Professional Development Scheme ("CPD Scheme") was first piloted as a voluntary scheme for Corporate Members in September 2003. After more than two years of careful development, fulfillment of CPD Scheme shall be made as a compulsory requirement for Fellows and Members to be maintained in the register of members with effective from year 2006 by the resolution passed at the EGM held on 21 December 2005. Besides, the proposed amendments to the By-Laws of the Institute to keep abreast of change were also passed at the meeting. |
| |
Whilst the CPD Scheme may be seen by some as a burdensome requirement, our profession is self regulatory and the Council is obliged to ensure the establishment and promotion of high standards of work within the profession. This includes the encouragement of the continued study and acquisition of knowledge and skills by housing management practitioners. |
| |
The CPD Scheme has been designed to be as flexible as possible so that the relevant number of CPD points may be acquired in a time conscious and cost effective manner. The Institute has taken into consideration the need for busy practitioners to have a variety of means by which they can comply with CPD requirements by permitting and encouraging methods of learning other than simply attendance at traditional lecture-based courses. For example, articles submission in publications of the Institute, participation as P.E.R. supervisor, long distance learning courses and the preparation and presentation of courses are all recognized as CPD activities. |
| |
Current rules governing the Mandatory CPD Scheme and the policies and guidelines of the Council in relation to the Scheme's practical application would be made available to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, minutes of the Extraordinary General Meeting held on 21 December 2005 is enclosed for your information. |
| |
Yours sincerely, For and on behalf of The Hong Kong Institute of Housing
